This book tells the story of Kwame Nkrumah, the first post-colonial president of an independent African country. The leadership of the messianic, charismatic Kwame Nkrumah personified his vision of a mythic socialist utopian (Afrotopian) Ghana. Nkrumah's visions and charisma met the iron hand of 'material interests' in the Cold War battle between Eat and West via a US government-sponsored regime-change that overthrew his government. The book will utilize previously unpublished and recently declassified IS State Department documents to give an analysis and a chronology of Nkrumah's fall. The book is written for a general audience and for academic historians and students. It will appeal to an audience interested to see how, in 1966, the United States triggered regime-change without the loss of a single American life. |
