Photographer Gerard Uferas followed The Paris Opera Ballet, one of the worlds greatest ballet companies, for the length of a seasonfrom the earliest rehearsals to the final performance. He accompanied the dancers from concert halls to the rooms backstage and on a tour of Japan, observing the dancers before the curtain was raised and the first note struck. His photographs lead us into the private world of the Opera Garnier, Pariss landmark opera house: the wings, practice halls named after the great figures in the history of ballet, and the ornate neo-Baroque foyer where, before each performance, the dancers gather to warm up. |
